About RussiaTrek

RussiaTrek began in 1998 as a personal collection of links I assembled while doing research to help me with my travels to Russia and interaction with the people I met there. I was often asked by a fellow American for information sources, so I built a personal portal or page of links (there were no bookmarking services at the time) to save me from looking up and emailing individual links. My first impression of Russia when I landed in Moscow in the fall of 1998 was that I had arrived on another planet. So I extrapolated the name “Russiatrek” for the site based from this experience.

RussiaTrek has grown to a place where I hope I can help facilitate more understanding between Russia and the west by encouraging more familiarity and interaction. The average Russian knows much more about us in the west than we do about them. The average Russian’s picture of life in the west is also incomplete, largely because our movies and pop culture has little in common with the way most of us live in the west. A great deal more can be done to help both cultures understand the other better.

As we enter the 4th quarter of 2007, I am still the only person working on the site, and it is still a non-profit site. I will continue to add to it as time allows. I am always interested in talking to anyone who is interested in looking after a small portion of the site who has worked with Wordpress. You can reach me at russiatrek@gmail.com
