Elbrus is the highest peak in Europe, its 5,642 metres high. The diamond of the Caucasus is situated in the South of Russia in the republic of Kabardino-Balkarian. Elbrus itself is an extinct volcano. The snow stays here throughout the year, making it a magnet for snowboarders and skiers even in summer. In the upcoming installment of the “Wayfarer” series Mark Ames tries skiing, the famous Narzan mineral water and the traditional food of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
This time Martyn Andrews is going on a trip around Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria in the foothills of the Caucasian Mountains. A lesson in traditional dancing, a knitting exam, a quest to conquer the mountains and a diving session in a mountain lake await him there. (Russia Today)
