Russia Today’s Wayfarer visits Tatarstan in this video report. Tatarstan enjoys unprecedented autonomy from Moscow in a era when the central government has proactively exerted great control over its republics. Tatarstan is home to almost four million people. It’s ethnic majority, Tatars, trace their origins back to a Turkic people and the the Volga Bulgars. Tatarstan has significant oil reserves as well as modernized agriculture and heavy industry.
